OK. havent been blogging for ages. and this is the first post of the year bah? most likely it is. yep. i'm going to go swim soon. so shall just put up my commonwealth essay so that you have something to read. not the old posts again. haha. x)) LOVE.
The world we live in is filled with many colours. Objects, materials, the sky, the sea, everything, has a colour. Have you ever imagined how our environment would be like if there were no colours? Imagine how boring everything would be. Imagine walking in a market and having to try every single fruit in order to know their difference. However, this is impossible. Life would be too difficult or you and me. Colours act like seasonings that adds flavour to a plain dish. It acts like the music that adds feeling to a boring movie. They are so important that without them, our lives would be so boring, so dull. With colours, we would be able to see our beautiful surroundings, the vibrant world we live in. We can learn to love the colourful nature. It would be such a pity if we were unable to see these breathtaking sights. The mountains would not be as spectacular anymore if it was not for the different shades of green and brown, the sea would not be as magnificent if it was not for the different tones of blue and grey. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Do these colours sound familiar? Yes, they are the colours of the rainbow. A rainbow is a symbol of hope and beauty. They are often associated with the myths and fairytales which brighten up the days of many people, young or old. It has fascinated the entire human race for ages. The pretty colours give people a positive view towards life. Hope helps people be more optimistic with everything they face and help them cope with all their problems. Colours are just so miraculous, they give more than happiness to people. The blacks have been discriminated against by the whites for a very long time. The blacks were not allowed in some areas and did not have the same privileges as the whites. However, it is not the colour that caused people to be discriminated against each other, but the mentality of them. People know that it is not right to do that, yet they continue doing it. When will they ever learn and stop the discrimination? When will people learn to love each other and live in peace? I’m sure a world without war and killings would be a nicer place to live in. Everyone has emotions. Colours can represent almost all the feelings we have. For instance, red when one is angry, blue when one is sad and green when one is jealous. However, not every emotion can be represented. At certain points in our lives, we may be experiencing a few emotions at one time. This is when the colours are all mixed up and we become very confused. We would not be able to differentiate the colours. We would then have to wash away all the colours on this very palette and start afresh. When you see colours like yellow, orange, red and pink, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Happiness? Joy? Excitement? This is because the colours stated above are warm colours. Researchers claim that these colours increase bodily tension and stimulates the nervous system. Colours like purple, indigo, blue and green are cold colours and they have exactly the opposite effects on us. Yellow means joy, optimism, hope and idealism. On the contrary, it could also mean cowardice, illness and dishonesty. Different cultures have different interpretations to each and every colour. Even among each culture, different people might see each colour differently. Therefore, it is hard to tell whether a colour is totally good or totally bad. We live in a world where colour dominates our lives. We use and experience colour everyday in our lives without even noticing or appreciating it. We might tell our friends how beautiful the scenery of a place is, how funny a comedy might be but have we ever wondered what the world would be like without colours? It would be in chaos. A traffic light is something that we see almost daily. Look out of our window and there might be one standing right there. As we all know, it is formed by the colours red, yellow and green. Without colours, cars would not know when to go and when to stop. The roads would be clogged, tragedies would happen and in the end, who would be the ones that suffer? Yes, us. When we watch performances like musicals, mimes, dances and plays, do we only notice what they say or do we focus mainly on what is happening on the stage itself? Imagine watching a dance without colour, paying a few hundred dollars just to watch a show in black and white, sad isn’t it? A funeral is a grand and solemn event where people grieve over the loss of their loved ones. In these occasions, we would normally see flowers like black and white roses being used. Black symbolises death in most western cultures and white in eastern ones. Black gives people a feeling of formality and white, humility. Therefore, they are the most appropriate colours to be used. We do not expect a red rose to be used during a funeral, do we? Red roses are used in another significant event, weddings. A wedding is also a grand event. However, It is a cheerful one, unlike funerals. Red symoblises love, romance and liveliness. Imagine a wedding with black and white roses. Someone who walked by would think that it is a sad event instead of a delightful one. When visiting a patient, yellow roses are often used. Yellow represents happiness and hope. It would cheer the patient up and in turn, help with their condition. This is how much colours can do to affect us, physically, mentally, psychologically and spiritually. Studies shown that certain colours could cause most people to have a specific response. Weightlifters could perform better in blue rooms. Babies cry more frequently in yellow rooms. A room would look more spacious when painted white and smaller when painted black. People have a better appetite in orange rooms and tend to eat more than usual. Colour consultants believe that the range of colours used to design a particular place could have a huge impact on the emotions and performance of people. This is why it is very important to choose the correct colour to paint your room. Choose a suitable colour and get desirable effects. Colours could also be used to produce illusions and deceive the eye. Colours have been investigated over centuries. Different civilizations have experimented and learned more about colours. The Egyptians used colours to cure many psychological problems. They had different coloured rooms for different purposes. The modern colour therapy or colour psychology could be related to this ancient practice. Aristotle found out that one colour could be mixed with another one to form a third colour when he placed a piece of blue glass over a yellow one and they formed green. Isaac Newton found out that when a white light passes through a prism, what that was reflected was not white, but seven different colours, the colours of the rainbow. The ancient Romans also believed that purple indicated power and nobility, therefore, they wore purple robes in high offices thus showing their authority. Blue is universally known as the best colour as it has the most positive interpretations and the least negative ones. Personally, my favourite colour is green as it represents youth and vigor, wealth and freedom. However, it also meant jealousy, inexperience and greed. The positive and negative points come hand in hand. Wealth with jealousy and greed. Youth with inexperience. No colour is perfect, just like no one is. Remember to clean your palette of emotions often enough not to let yourself feel overloaded, yet not so often that you do not know how to be gratitude towards others. Learn to appreciate everything around us, every plant, every animal, every person. If one day, we open our eyes only to realise that everything is in black and white. Life would never be the same ever again. No more laughter, no more tears. When will that happen? No one knows for sure. ( Number of words: 1373 ) THE END. YAYS. <3>
